Thanks..I will visit your yahoo group.
Where did you get the 125 watt panel?

I have a couple more small panels that I have been thinking about hooking them all together with everything.
    Your videos are inspiring…… thanks.

125 watt panel $299 and two more deep cycles will run just about everything if using NG or propane.

You have a great setup and just expand it a little and you can be completely off grid with no utility bills!

1-2 hours is as long as I allow the TV on.
What would I spend the $500 on besides better batteries?
I watched every one of your vids. They are awesome! I wish we could hang out & kick around ideas and projets we have in common!
Well done on the house…. loved the tours! Rick.

You must be running an inverter for the TV and I guess you get 3-4 hours total ?

You could expand that system for $500 and probably run everything in the house if you use propane or NG for major appliances.

    See solarcabin for ideas!

    Yep, good stuff, Rick!

And thanks for adding my vid-response: ‘Be With Me’.

It is relevant to the DIY solar-vid as the vid concerns sunshine turned into music; the song is produced in a little studio, using only solar power.

    Cheers!

i like your work.just a sugestion, you need a battery voltmeter to monitor your investment.

That’s what they say but it works …..and has been for a long time,

  12. kchedville 21 November 2009 at 17:50 #

You have a Flat Screen TV, don’t you need a pure sinewave inverter for that?

I built my own Solar Panels for under $100 and a Solar Water Heater for UNDER $10 that are currently powering my 1700 Square Foot home! I used the simple plans at:

with both lights and the TV running how long does this setup last without a good lighting condition? for example a big blizzard that may knock out power? how long would this hold you out to?

  19. london1817 21 November 2009 at 17:50 #

    That’s right…And you don’t have to buy 300
panels….Just enough for what you want to run …in an emergery or everyday.

  20. plato109 21 November 2009 at 17:50 #

more people should build their own solar systems. We must take care of our environment otherwise there wont be one.

  21. 1kzrider 21 November 2009 at 17:50 #

hey also wanted to say in watching your vid the panels need moved some they are in the shadows

  22. 1kzrider 21 November 2009 at 17:50 #

Good to see others having fun with this and helping carbon foot print. I am looking for help I want to set two of the 45 watt solar kits up on a solar tracker.

  23. molemanlivesagain 21 November 2009 at 17:50 #

    you just touch those batterys?

  24. london1817 21 November 2009 at 17:50 #

Sounds like you did a great job on that!
It is addictive! I keep trying to add stuff on mine. I always seem to be looking for a bigger inverter. I think it wouldn’t be hard to get off the grid in a cabin in a remote area with this system.

  25. krcool32 21 November 2009 at 17:50 #

Great videos, I just setup my solar system from Harbor Freight… I currently have the 45 watt panels going to the stock charge controller, then to a 12v deep cycle battery, then to a 750 watt inverter, and currently have to light fixtures running in my house with 15 watt compact fluorescents… It has yet to drop below 12 volts… I plan on adding more to it, but I can see how this gets very addictive!
